On Saturday, July 23rd, we had the great pleasure
of having Sho-Bu-Do master Kaicho Robert Morton
and his student Shidoshi Wayne Nelson conduct
a Jujutsu and Tanbo Workshop for our students.
Mr. Morton resides in Wellington, Nevada where
he teaches his art to an exclusive group of students.
Mr. Nelson resides in Jacksonville, North Carolina
where he carries on the tradition of Mr. Morton
and handcrafts traditional weapons.
The workshop was broken down into two sessions.
The morning session included training in joint
locks, armbar techniques, take downs and locks.
The afternoon session included handling the Tanbo,
striking and locking positions and take downs
with the Tanbo. Our students gained a wealth of
information and learned many new self-dense techniques.

| BLACK BELT TEST, AUGUST
13, 2005 |
|

|
The day started with four students testing for
their orange belts in Kenjutsu. We began offering
Kenjutsu classes about a year ago, so these students
were the first to test for rank. The test was
very exciting and a great success. All four students
achieved Orange Belt.
We had three ladies testing for 1st Degree Black
Belt. Tracy Williams, Meredith Kraine, and Katie
Williams tested and achieved their Black Belt!
These ladies succeeded in this high energy, intense
test through absolute focus and determination.
They demonstrated their endurance by performing
over 120 of each basic strike and punch, self-defense,
kata, sparring and breaking concert blocks. They
were awesome and learned to appreciate the meaning
of " mailing on the black belt by Hanshi Bowen"!
The day concluded with a demonstration of rank
by Rita Whitney. Ms. Whitney performed numerous
katas in open hand and weapons including bo staff,
sai, tonfa and nunchakus! She also, performed
personal self-defense against an attacker. After
which Ms. Whitney was promoted to 4th Degree Black
Belt

| Katrina
Kick-A-Thon, September 13 & 14 |
|

|
Hurricane Katrina put fear and appreciation
in the hearts of all Americans. The devastation
to our country was overwhelming. So once again,
the Karate International students rallied together
as they did for the tsunami victims to raise money
for those in need. Students gathered pledges for
kicks from their family, friends, neighbors and
anyone who would listen. The pledges ranged any
where from 10 cents a kick to $5.00 per kick. On
September 13 & 14, the KI students went into action
with the Katrina Kick-A-Thon. Each student did as
many kicks as possible in two minutes. Over the
two day period the students threw over 140,000 kicks
and raised an astounding $21,486.10 for the Salvation
Army. Karate International students and families
have shown over and over again their capacity to
care and share which is one of life's greatest lessons. |
